2017 Arizona Stroke Play Championship

Grand Canyon University Golf Course will be the host of the 2017 Stroke Play Championship. Located in Phoenix, Grand Canyon University purchased Maryvale Golf Course and renovated the course. In 2016 Mason Andersen won by three strokes at GCU Golf Course.

HOST SITE:

Grand Canyon University (GCU) Golf Course. 4302 N. 59th Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85003.

DATES:

April 20 – 23, 2017 (Thursday – Sunday)

ELIGIBILITY:

Participants must hold an active membership with an AGA Member Club and have an index of 5.4 or less. All participants must be in agreement with the AGA Tournament Regulations

EXEMPTIONS:

Participants who finished in the top-60 + ties in 2016 automatically earn an exemption into the 2017 Arizona Stroke Play Championship. Those who wish to use their exemption into the Championship will need to complete Tournament Registration before Friday, March 24 or risk losing their exemption spot. Click here for a list of Exempt players  Then the field will open up to all players with a 5.4 index or less after March 24.

GOLF CART USE:

This is a MANDATORY WALKING EVENT. No cart priviledges will be granted to participants, caddies or spectators. Caddies must walk with players.
In addition, the following policies will be enforced:
1) Spectator carts are NOT permitted, NO EXCEPTIONS
2) Push carts are permitted

PRACTICE ROUNDS:

Practice rounds may be made by calling GCU Golf Course at http://www.gcugolf.com/book-now/ or by calling 623-846-4022.  

FORMAT:

72-holes of individual stroke play at gross handicap. Max field size of 144 players. The field will be cut to top 60 scores + ties after the first 36-holes.                                                                          

TOURNAMENT TEE TIMES:

Pairings will be in groups of three, at 10-minute intervals between groups and tee times will be as follows:

Thursday, April 20

7:15 – 9:15 a.m.                                First Round off Nos. 1 & 10 tees (1st wave)

11:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.                       First Round off Nos. 1 & 10 tees (2nd wave)

Friday, April 21

7:15 – 9:15 a.m.                                Second Round off Nos. 1 & 10 tees (1st wave)

11:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.                       Second Round off Nos. 1 & 10 tees (2nd wave)

Saturday, April 22

7:15 – 10:35 a.m.                                Third Round off No. 1 tee

Sunday, April 23

3 p.m.                                                 Awards Ceremony

In the event of a tie, a hole-by-hole playoff will begin immediately following the conclusion of play to determine the champion.

PAIRINGS:

Official tournament pairings will be available by end of day on Monday, April 17. Pairings will be posted on the tournament website and players will receive an email once pairings are available.

DRIVING RANGE:

Practice balls will be available on the range prior to play on: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at GCU Golf Course.

FOOD & BEVERAGE:

The Lope House Restaurant located inside GCU Golf Course Clubhouse will be open from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. during the tournament.

PAYOUTS:

Exact breakdown of payouts is calculated based on the number of participants and will be posted at the Host Site prior to final-round scoring.

GOLF CART USE:

This is a MANDATORY walking event. No cart privileges will be granted to participants or caddies during the event. Caddies must walk with players.

In addition, the following policies will be enforced:

  1. Spectator carts are not permitted for insurance reasons, NO EXCEPTIONS.
  2. Carts are assigned only to contestants. A caddie may use a cart only if a contestant is not displaced by such use.
  3. Restrictions on cart use for players are at the discretion of the Host Site, and all players are bound by those requirements, subject to withdrawal for violations of that policy. Any such restrictions will be posted at the tournament site.
  4. Two persons per cart only.
  5. Carts must be kept on paths if available near greens and tees.
  6. Any non-player riding with a player is considered a caddie and subject to any potential rules violations.
  7. Pull carts are permitted as long as not in conflict with the Host Club rules.

WITHDRAW POLICY: Prior to the Entry Deadline, players may withdraw from a tournament and receive a full refund by completing the withdraw process on the tournament website, calling the AGA office (602) 944-3035 during normal business hours or calling the Withdraw Line at (602) 944-3035 ext. 210 and leaving a message.

After the Entry Deadline has passed, any withdraw will be considered a “late withdraw”. Tournament entry fees will only be returned if the player’s position in the field is filled by an alternate. In any case, a $30 administrative fee will be deducted from any tournament entry fee refund, regardless of the reason for withdrawing.
