The AWGA created and introduced the GEM (golf endorsed by members) Program in the fall of 2011 for the purpose of selecting the premiere golf courses in Arizona for play by women. This program also gives a public voice to the women who, we feel, can play a pivotal role in developing the women’s golf market, something that is key to growing the game…an initiative that is important to anybody who is involved in golf, from players to course operators alike.

How the GEM Program Works:

  • Women who are members of the Arizona Golf Association are surveyed on their experiences playing golf courses in Arizona.
  • Surveys are tallied annually to identify the best places to play in the state, from a woman’s perspective.
  • Golf courses with GEM awards have demonstrated their commitment and understanding of the women’s golf market by satisfying the preferences of female golfers.

Golf Courses Are Evaluated On:

  • Clubhouse and Facilities
  • Course Conditions
  • Playability, Challenge, and Enjoyment
  • Customer Service
  • Food & Beverage
  • Merchandise Availability
  • Overall Value

How does the GEM Survey impact the golf courses and staff?

The GEM Survey report and comments provide the golf courses and the professionals that operate them an opportunity to attract the ever-growing market of women golfers…and the spouses, friends, and children who may accompany them.
