USGA P.J. Boatwright Intern



JOB OBJECTIVE

The PJ Boatwright Internship was created by the United States Golf Association to provide an opportunity and education to individuals interested in seeking a career in golf administration.

We are offering a variety of internship opportunities ranging from 3-12 months and are flexible with regard to start and end dates. The internship pays $2,000 per month and is considered a full-time, 35-40 hours per week position.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Tournaments and Championships-Contact: Senior Director of Tournaments and Championships– [email protected]
    • Tournament entry processing
    • Computerized management of events including entering players, creating pairings and tee times, and processing results
    • Site preparation including coordinating site visits with club, course marking, and preparation of Notice to Competitors
    • Assist the Tournament Director with all aspects of conducting the competitions including (but not limited to) starting, scoring, course setup, producing next round pairings, officiating and reporting results
    • Assist in the management of volunteers


  1. Handicapping and Course Rating-Contact: Derek McKenzie, Director of USGA Services – [email protected]
    • Attend certification seminars in order to get a better understanding of the handicap system
    • Assist in the management of the handicap system through GHIN
    • Answer incoming calls from clubs regarding the administration of the handicap system at member clubs
    • Assist the course rating teams in the field
    • Input worksheet data to determine the resulting course and slope ratings
  2. Marketing, Communications and Outreach-Contact Anj Brown, Director of Communications and Outreach – [email protected]
    • Assist with the daily update of the AGA’s website, azgolf.org
    • Maintain content schedule on social media platforms
    • Work with staff to create online videos
    • Assist in the creation of various written pieces including news articles, press releases, blogs, etc
    • Work with staff to execute the various regular communications including newsletters, magazine, press releases etc.
  3. Education and Member Services-Anj Brown, Director of Communications and Outreach – [email protected]
    • Assist in implementation and education of the AGA’s tournament management software that is provided to all member clubs as part of their membership
    • Assist in providing support to members in using the software products provided to them including using the AGA’s website to log in, post scores, enter tournaments, etc
    • Assist in the administration of the AGA’s delegate program
