Walicki Finishes on top at the Arizona Players Cup
11 Nov 2018 by AmateurGolf.com Staff
WICKENBURG, Ariz. (Nov. 11, 2018) – Chalk up another title for Adam Walicki. The Phoenix, Ariz., resident came out on top at the Arizona Players Cup. Walicki opened with 5-under 66 at Wickenburg Ranch Golf Club and never looked back. Walicki had a three-shot lead after the first round, and even though he followed with a 3-over 74 on Sunday, he still won by three shots. T.J. Nolan was runner-up at 1 over. Caden Christopherson finished third another three shots back. Sunday was a much more colorful day for Walicki, as he took a triple-bogey 8 on the par-5 ninth. He rebounded by playing the back nine in even par.
Earlier this summer, Walicki won the San Diego City Amateur. He also qualified for this year’s U.S. Mid-Am and most recently, was T-27 at the Stocker Cup.
David Honerkamp won the senior division title at 2-over 144. Honerkamp had back-to-back rounds of 72 to finish one shot ahead of Jeff Benton. Don Reycroft won the super senior division at 3-over 145 while Rusty Brown and Jeff New tied for second at 4 over. Anthony Petronis and Tom Preston both were 14 over – with identical rounds of 75-81 – to top the legends division.

Players Cup Points
Players Cup Points are accumulated during the calendar year.
A player’s Division for the given year is determined by his age as of the first day of January.
In Stroke Play events, all players finishing the event will receive points. In match play events, in addition to those selected for matches, those whose score ties for the last qualifying place earn equal points.
Bonus points are available for players in USGA Championships and International events with AGA Invitations (i.e. Peru, Mexican Amateur)
Players Qualifying for USGA events receive points according to the published criteria. AGA is responsible for charting points gained in Arizona qualifiers. Those players qualifying in other locations are responsible to notify the AGA within 30 days’ of qualifying to receive points.
In Sanctioned events, points will be awarded to the top 10 finishers or 1/3 of the field, whichever is less. In the Arizona Open and Arizona Senior Open, the 1/3 of field criteria refers to number of amateurs in the field – i.e. if there are 24 amateurs in the Arizona Open, 8 amateurs would receive points.
If a player’s birthdate creates eligibility for another Division, the player may compete for a trophy in any event for which his age makes him eligible, but may gain points only through the Division in effect as of January 1 for the year. Points accumulated cannot be transferred from one Division to another within the same year.
In any event, any player competing in a lower age Division will earn points in his Division as well, determined by the score returned in the event (e.g. Any person eligible for a Division will receive points equal to those his score would have won in the Division competition without any effect on other players in the Division).
Note: With the conclusion of the Players Cup Championship, the leaders in each Division for the year will receive prizes based on the year-long contributions from events. The prize structure will be announced prior to the beginning of the Players Cup Championship.
