Inaugural Marilynn Smith Arizona Women’s Open & Scholarship Pro-Am

In honor of Marilynn Smith, long-time Arizona resident and one of the original Founders of the LPGA Tour, the Arizona Golf Foundation will host the Inaugural Marilynn Smith Arizona Women’s Open Championship May 3 – 4, 2022 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. The event will guarantee a $30,000 minimum purse and will attract professionals and amateurs from around the country.

The event will feature:

  • Marilynn Smith Scholarship Pro-Am – 30 teams of four amateurs and one Golf Professional
  • Senior Two-Person Team – for participants ages 45 and up

ELIGIBILITY

Senior Division

Entries are open to two-person teams of female golfers who have reached their 45th birthday by May 1, 2022.

Code of Conduct: The AGF may reject an entry application, revoke an accepted application, expel from the Championship and/or suspend a player from future championships if the player engages in conduct detrimental to the integrity and image of the game of golf and/or public confidence in the AGF. Such conduct may include, but is not limited to, damage to the golf course or the player’s equipment, verbal or physical abuse of spectators, officials, volunteers, or staff, blatant or excessive profanity, disorderly behavior, failure to abide by club rules, or any other unbecoming conduct.

Equipment Used for Medical Reasons: Players who wish to request permission to use a medical device due to a medical condition or injury and proceed under Rule 4.3b(1) of the Rules of Golf must submit the request to the Tournament Committee at least ten days in advance of the first round to be played, either in a qualifier or the event itself. The Committee will respond within 72 hours of receipt of the request. By submitting a request, the player agrees to be bound by the Committee’s decision.

ENTRIES: FORM, FEE, CLOSING DATE

All players, including those who are exempt, must submit an entry application. Applications are available online at the AGF website (azgolf.org/azwomensopen). Only one entry may be filed per player. The AGF reserves the right to disqualify anyone who submits more than one entry.

Entry fee of $600 for Senior Division teams ($300 per person).

Players who withdraw prior to close of entries will receive a refund less a service charge of $30.00. Players who withdraw after close of entries, but prior to start of the Championship, will not be issued a refund unless their position in the field can be filled from the waitlist. No refund for any reason after May 2, 2022.

Entry applications for the tournament proper must be received no later than April 29, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. All applications must be submitted through the AGF website azgolf.org/azwomensopen. Entries by telephone, mail, email, or fax are not accepted.

In the event of a tie, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held as soon as possible, once involved players can be determined. In the event of weather or darkness, the Committee may declare joint Champions.

PRIZES

There will be a minimum $30,000 purse for the Inaugural Marilynn Smith Arizona Women’s Senior Open, which will be split pro-rata. In addition to the prize purse, the winning team will receive the inaugural Marilynn Smith Senior Open trophies.

Amateurs prize money will be limited to $1,000 with any excess donated to the Foundation.

Prize Sharing Prohibited: By her application, the player certifies that she has not entered and will not enter any arrangement whereby she could have a financial interest in any other player’s prize money (such as through prize-splitting or prize money “insurance”).

RULES OF GOLF; WHEN COMPETITION IS FINAL

Play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the United States Golf Association and R&A Rules Limited. Questions will be settled by the on-site Rules Committee, whose decision will be final. The competition is final when all scores have been approved by the Committee.

CADDIES

All Rounds: A player may provide her own caddie. A player is not required to employ a caddie for any stage of the Tournament.

PUBLICITY AND PROMOTION; BROADCASTING

Registrants understand that the AGF or its designees, may record, film, photograph, or otherwise capture my likeness, image, voice, biography, references to me, my quoted statements, and my play in the Championship (the foregoing, together with my name, my “Appearance”). In consideration of the opportunity to participate in the Championship, by submitting this Application, I grant (and/or have the authority to grant to the AGF in the case of a parent/guardian of a minor or other authorized representative submitting the Application on my behalf) to the AGF, and its licensees, successors and assigns, the perpetual, transferable, assignable, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable right to use my Appearance, in whole or in part, in all manner (including exhibition, distribution, reproduction, publication, display, broadcast, transmission or otherwise), and media now known or hereafter invented or discovered, and for any purpose whatsoever.

The rights granted herein include, without limitation, the right to use the Appearance, or portions thereof, in promotion of the Championship and future championships through any of the foregoing means of distribution, as well as in the design, manufacture and distribution of merchandise related to the Championship or other championships, that include elements of my Appearance. The AGF is not obligated to use my Appearance in any matter, and materials embodying any aspect of my Appearance do not need be submitted to me for approval. I release and discharge the AGF, its licensees, successors and assigns from any claims arising from use of my Appearance, including claims for misrepresentation of me, my character, or my person by any means. As between the AGF and me, the AGF shall own all right, title and interest, including the copyright(s), in and to any works created by the AGF, its licensees, successors and assigns, that include all or a portion of my Appearance. This grant shall be binding on my heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, and the successors and assigns of the AGF. I hereby waive all privacy, publicity, defamation, libel, and proprietary rights relating to the Appearance as used by the AGF in conjunction with these terms.

Players are required to cooperate with representatives of the media; however, no pre-Championship activities outside of those activities which are part of the Championship will be required. Authorized representatives of the media will not interfere with the player’s Championship play in an unreasonable manner.

ONSITE CHAMPIONSHIP REGISTRATION

All players must register by the Registration Deadline of 12:00 noon on Monday, May 2nd; or, by notification in advance of that time to the Committee. Those not registered or identified may be replaced in the starting field.

Practice rounds may be reserved April 24 through May 1 by calling Longbow Golf Shop at 480-807-5400. The practice round rate for event participants is $70 plus tax.

PERSONAL APPEARANCE

In Qualifying and the Championship proper, players must be neat in appearance with respect to clothing and personal grooming.

LOCAL RULES; TERMS OF THE COMPETITION

The AGF Championship Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the Local Rules, Terms of the Competition, provisions and/or schedules herein. The decision of the Championship Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.

WAITLIST

Should the field fill, a waitlist will be offered. If a spot becomes available, the player will be notified by email and phone.

ACCEPTANCE OF PLACES; NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL

On the day of Qualifying, every qualifier should inform the Official in Charge whether she will play in the Championship. If a qualifier or an exempt player withdraws, she must notify the AGF at 602-872-7025 or via e-mail at [email protected] promptly to insure an alternate fair opportunity to play or to qualify for a refund of entry.
