Powell Leads Crowded Leaderboard After One Round At the West Valley Amateur

WADDELL – Charged by a clean front nine, Matt Powell (-4) holds a one-stroke lead after 18 holes at the West Valley Amateur. Powell is joined by Rusty Brown (-3) who leads the Senior Division and Murph Mitchell (-3), leading the Legends Division.

All three division leaders hold narrow leads. In the Open Division, Kaden Larkey (-3) led for much of the day but fell to second with two late-round bogeys. Last year’s Arizona Amateur runner-up, Camden Braidech (-2) is in a three-way tie with Ryan Pelletier and Nick Adduce for the third-place spot.

“(My round) was pretty clean,” Braidech said. “There were a few moments where I lost focus and my iron shots were the main issue. But the rest of the day was pretty solid, kept playing off the tee well, struck the ball well and made some putts- had some 15-footers go in for birdie.”

The two-round tournament concludes tomorrow at Falcon Dunes Golf Course with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m., and the lead group slated to go off at 9:27 a.m.
