Tanigawa Seeks First Victory on PGA Champions Tour

Ken Tanigawa wins PURE Insurance Championship

Pebble Beach, California-It was just over a year ago when Ken Tanigawa, of Scottsdale, was playing on the AGA Tour, clinching the Arizona Amateur title for the second time in three years. Now, he is part of Pebble Beach PGA Champions Tour history, and it was done in style. It was a 30-foot eagle putt he converted on the 18th at the iconic Pebble Beach, that gave the two-time Arizona Amateur Champion and 2015 AGA Player of the Year his first PGA Tour Champions win.
“Just wow”, Tanigawa said.
The PGA Champions Tour rookie held a two-stroke lead going into Sunday’s final round at ten-under 133. The former UCLA Bruin golfer closed the final round with an even-par 72, enough to beat Kirk Triplett and Marco Dawson by one stroke.
“I’m a little speechless right now. It was a hard round for me, but I fought back.”
This past December, Tanigawa’s top-five finish at Champions Tour Q-School gained the re-instated amateur a fully exempt 2018 season. After his victory on Sunday, Tanigawa ranks 20th on the Charles Schwab Cup Money List. With just 18 starts on the Champions Tour, Tanigawa managed to make all the cuts, recording three top 10 finishes along with two top 20 performances.
