Lewis and Schmunk Post Wins at the Thompson Invitational at Oro Valley Country Club
Trevor Lewis, 15, of Prescott, outlasted older brother, Riley, 17, to take first place in the Boy Championship division at the Thompson Invitational contested at Oro Valley Country Club September 22-23. Trevor followed a first-round 72 with a final-round 71, the lowest round of the tournament on the boy’s side, to finish at 1-under-par 143 for the championship. This marks Trevor’s first win in nine events entered this season. Riley shot 1-over-par 73-72—145 for the tournament, one stroke clear of third-place finisher, Charles Van Slyck, 16, of Scottsdale (72-74—146).
In the Girls Championship division, Trevor Lewis, 15, of Prescott, outlasted older brother, Riley, 17, to take first place in the Boy Championship division at 2-over-par 146 with round-one leader, Ashley Menne (72-74), 16, of Surprise. To force the playoff, Schmunk posted the low round of the tournament, 2-under par with four birdies and an eagle, before making one last birdie on the first extra hole to earn the championship. Madeleine Laux, 16, of Goodyear came in third place at 3-over-par 147 (76-71), one stroke off the pace.

About Michael Thompson
Michael Thompson, a Tucson native, grew up playing in the Ricki Rarick Junior Golf program, Southwest Section PGA events and JGAA tournaments from 2000-2003. He was a member of the 2001 Eddie Hogan Cup team representing Arizona, where he finished third individually. Thompson played collegiate golf at the University of Tulane before transferring to the University of Alabama. In 2008, Thompson was named the SEC Player of the Year and shortly after turned professional. In 2013, he won his first PGA TOUR event at the Honda Classic and finished 39th overall in the FedExCup standings that year. In 2017, Thompson finished in the top 10 once, top-25 six times and made 9 of 21 cuts on tour.
