JGAA Hosts 100-Hole Golf Marathon

JUNIOR GOLF ASSOCIATION HOSTS 100-HOLE GOLF MARATHON TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LOCAL JUNIOR GOLF
PHOENIX – The Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA) will host a fundraising event to benefit local junior golf programs where participants play 100 holes of golf in one day. In its 15th year, participants first solicit sponsorship pledges from various donors who may contribute anywhere from 50 cents to $50 per hole. Then, on Saturday, October 1, the participants come together at Bear Creek Golf Complex’s Cub Course to play the 100 holes.“We have a lot of fun with this every year,” said Scott McNevin, Executive Director of the JGAA. “Although it may seem like a grind when we say ‘100 hole marathon,’ everybody finishes the day with a smile on their face. And, of course, the funds are critical to our efforts to educate, motivate and inspire our future community leaders through the game of golf.”

Girls Golf Days Kicks Off Sept. 3rd

Free for girls 5-17, event features golf clinic, inspiring meet-and-greet with Hannah O’Sullivan, golf tournament, food, golf expo, and lots of fun
PHOENIX – Girls Golf of Phoenix announced today that they will host a day-long special event and tournament at Papago Golf Course to celebrate the City of Phoenix’s official proclamation of Saturday, September 3 as “Girls Golf Day.” Open to all girls ages 5-17 for free, the event will cater to Phoenix-area girls and families from 9:30 AM to sunset.“Growing the game of golf is more than just getting the kids on the golf course,” said Cori Matheson, Director of Girls Golf Phoenix. “It’s about engaging them, empowering them and energizing them to make golf – and all the lessons it teaches – part of their core. This sets them up for success on, and off, the golf course.”

9:30 AM: Participant check-in begins 
10 AM: “These Girls Rock!” golf clinic. Free for girls of all abilities ages 5-17, the event will be hosted by The First Tee of Phoenix and instructors from VISOIN54, which was founded by Pia Nelson and Lynn Marriot, Golf Digest’s number-one and number-two-ranked female instructors in America. 11:30 AM: Meet-and-greet with women celebrities (TBD) and standout local player Hannah O’Sullivan, who captured the 2015 Women’s Amateur Championships and is currently listed No. 3 on the Women’s WORLD AMATEUR GOLF RANKING™. Free and open to family and friends.

Cecil Morris, Volunteer of the Month

Cecil Morris has been a long time AGA volunteer. The time he has kindly given to the Association includes being a club delegate, running an AGA Member Club (Arizona Sunset GA), competing in numerous Club Team Championships and serving on the Senior Cup Series Committee. Most recently for the 2016 season, Cecil was selected as the Senior Cup Series Committee Chairman. In addition to the extensive duties of managing the series, he also plays in every event to stay on top of his golf game. Congratulations, Cecil! Judy Bell to be Honored with 2016 Bob Jones Award

Receiving the Bob Jones Award is the highest honor an individual can receive from the USGA. Judy Bell received the award this year on June 14th during the week of the 116th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club. The award has been presented to deserving individuals since 1955 to recognize those who demonstrate the spirit, personal character and and respect for the game. Bell not only exudes all those traits but her long list of accolades exemplifies why she is also deserving of this award – winner of nine USGA Championships, first female president on the USGA (1996-1997), competed on the victorious Curtis Cup Teams in 1960 and 1962 and many more!
