First Champion of 2016

The 2016 AGA tournament year began with some very cool temperatures at the Short Course Championship which was hosted at Rolling Hills GC. James Russo captured the first win of the year with a score of 116, 6 under par, and survived in a 3 way playoff with Blaine Staggs and Colton Yates. The first round gave up 10 scores of even par (61) or better. James Russo posted a 56 (5 under par 61) to begin his chase for the title. Colton Yates also posted a 56, which tied James for the low round of the day. Not far behind were Blaine Staggs and Bryan Hoops who both posted scores of 59. On round 2, James and Colton both posted scores of 1 under par 60’s, and Blaine gained his way into the playoff with a 4 under 57. The playoff did not take long as James rolled in a 15 foot birdie putt on the long 237 yard first hole to take the top spot.
Also congratulations to Sean O’Donnell who scored a hole in one on the 178 yard 17th hole with a 7 iron.
Next stop, Tempe Amateur on January 30-31.
