Accenture Match Play honors military
Tournament officials today announced a variety of initiatives to honor the U.S. Armed Forces during the 2013 World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, held February 18-24 at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain, in Marana, Ariz. This year’s activities will once again be part of Birdies for the Brave, a military outreach initiative proudly supported by the PGA TOUR. Outreach includes a Military Appreciation Day; free admission to the tournament for all active, Reserve, and military retirees and their dependents; complimentary tickets for veterans; and Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost presented by Lend Lease (US) Public Partnerships.
As is the policy at many PGA TOUR events, the Accenture Match Play Championship is proud to continue the tradition of offering complimentary admission for active duty, Reserve, and military retirees and their dependents with valid IDs (Monday-Sunday). Tickets are not available in advance. Military members simply present a valid CAC or Military ID at the main entrance gate in order to gain entry to Accenture Match Play Championship.
New this year, a limited number of complimentary tickets are available to non-retired military veterans. Tickets can be obtained through the Veteran Tickets Foundation by visiting www.vettix.org.
In addition, the Accenture Match Play Championship is hosting Military Appreciation Day on Friday, February 22. The day will include a ceremony at 10:15 a.m. between the clubhouse and practice facility featuring a color guard, the National Anthem and a flyover by the U.S. Air Force.
Throughout the week, military will be welcomed into the Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost presented by Lend Lease (US) Community Fund, with support from O’Rielly Chevrolet, Tucson Appliance and Pepsi. The structure, which is open Wednesday through Sunday to all military and their families, is located between the 14th tee box and 17th green and will offer military members free refreshments and a place to relax during the tournament. Beverages are provided by Pepsi.
“The Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost gives us a chance to again thank the many men and women who serve our nation’s cause around the globe,” said U.S. Army veteran Marc Sierra, managing director of Lend Lease (US) Public Partnerships LLC and chairman of the board of the Lend Lease (US) Community Fund. “Our participation in this event gives us another opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifices, their service and their never-ending protection of our freedoms.”
The Accenture Match Play Championship, which is the first in a series of four World Golf Championships events in 2013, has been played in the Tucson area since 2007 and at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain since 2009.
