AZ wins 2012 Southwest Team Challenge

Dec. 3-5, six amateurs representing Arizona defeated amateurs from Utah and Colorado in a modified version of the Southwest Team Challenge at Cascata Golf Club in Las Vegas.
The competition usually involves four teams, but this year Arkansas backed out of the matches too late to find a substitute state, which changed the scoring format and made the competition even more exciting. The modified format consisted of threesomes with a player from each team in the threesome. Within the threesome each player earned a point for every hole he won against either opponent. Threesomes were changed each day and there were no duplication of individual matches.
Arizona finished with 209 points, Colorado scored 199 points and Utah managed only 173 points. Arizona had the top two individual scorers with Trey Martin winning 43 holes and Grant Cesarek winning 41. Colorado’s top scorer, Keith Humerickhouse, was third in individual points with 38. The Arizona team consisted of Trey Martin, Adam Walicki, Grant Cesarek, Lee Decof, Marc Apps and Dave Rasley.
