Dave Anderson wins Silverbell GC Club Net Championship

By Phil Zepeda, Silverbell GC delegate

Dave Anderson was named the Silverbell Golf Club’s 2011 Net Champion after shooting a net 60 on Nov. 12 to end with an aggregate net 125. Dave’s achievement secured his 1st place trophy and a spot on the Club Net Championship plaque.

On the final day of the tournament, the forecast was for a chance of rain and high winds. The weather turned out grand for final rounds day of play with no wind nor rain, making ideal conditions for low scoring.

The format was 2-rounds of individual net stroke play using 2 Flights with the Club Net Champion coming from any flight.

Dave Anderson came into the final round after scoring a net 65 in the first round of competition. He hoped to finish strong, but knew the heat was on being tied with 1st place round co-leader Par Dar. Close to the front and one stroke behind were Thomas Cleary and Ed Blevins, with Bill Sash in 5th two strokes off the lead.

Dave’s final round net 60 beat 2nd place finisher Ed Blevins by 3 strokes overall. “I started the day with my first shot in the lake and made double bogie on the first hole,” said Dave. “I was able to recover and finish the front with a 42. I tried not to let the par 3s control my round”. Dave did well to par all par 3s, except the most difficult par 3 — hole 16, which is long and water plagued — where he posted a 4.

“I putted well through the back nine and was scrambling to finish the back with a 37," Dave continued. "I birdied hole 17 which I have never done before, which was good (for me).” Hole number 17 has water on the left, waste area on the right, a fairway that slopes toward the lake and bunker-protected back-to-front steep sloping green.

Good job Dave! Silverbell Golf Club’s next major event will be the year end Presidents Cup Dec. 3 at Silverbell Golf Course. The web address is www.silverbellgolfclub.com.
