Senior Cup Series Championship

With a net score of 43 points, Tucson’s Jay Trapnell was named the 2011 Senior Cup Series champion, beating out golfers from across the state at the Senior Cup Series Championship held Sept. 6 at the Gallery Golf Club in Tucson. Each with 41 points, Green Valley’s Don Nix placed second and Anthem’s Jerry Nielsen placed third. View photos and results from the championship. Throughout the spring and summer, players age 55 and older with a handicap of 36.4 or less compete in one-day team events using the better ball of partners. Individuals accumulate points from playing and those with the most points are invited to play in the series ending championship. Though the Senior Cup Series originally began in the Phoenix area, it has since expanded to both northern and southern Arizona. Trapnell, Nix and Nielsen will be honored in the Spring at the AGA’s annual awards banquet.
