AGA member club supports our troops
Ventana Canyon Golf & Racquet Club in Tucson held its inaugural Patriot Golf Day event last September. Under the leadership of a diligent board, and with the strong support of a committed membership and numerous local business leaders, Ventana Canyon was not only the largest contributor to the Folds of Honor Foundation in the entire Southwest, but was also in the top 1 percent of all donors in the United States. More than $18,000 was raised for Folds of Honor and the organization’s scholarship program, which supports students who have suffered the loss or disability of a family member while serving our country. In addition, Ventana Canyon hosted more than 85 members of Tucson-based Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and the Arizona Air National Guard for a day of golf, dining and relaxation. On Sept. 12, Ventana Canyon will host its second annual Patriot Golf Day event and, once again, members of the club and the community have established several bold initiatives. By funding the Ventana Canyon Golf & Racquet Club Folds of Honor Scholarship, a student from southern Arizona will be the recipient of a $5,000 college scholarship. This is in addition to continuing to support the Folds of Honor Foundation on a national level. The goal has also been set to host 150 local enlisted military members who will play in the Patriot Golf Day golf tournament. Finally, by partnering with the Jimmy Jet Foundation, funds will be directed to Tucson Air National Guard families who have suffered unexpected financial setbacks. Members of the Ventana Canyon community recognize their obligation to “support the troops” and are committed to fulfilling that obligation by continuing the good work they began in 2010.
