Patrick Peterson Celebrity Golf Tournament
In 2013, Patrick launched the Patrick Peterson Foundation for Success, a Prolanthropy-Managed Organization. Its first campaign was titled the “Pick up a Book” Campaign. The program is designed to encourage reading and children’s literacy development at disadvantaged elementary schools. In the fall of 2014, Peterson's Foundation challenged 60 area schools to log 100,000+ minutes of reading by the end of the semester. San Marcos Elementary School in Chandler, AZ was the first to win the challenge and the children were rewarded with a pizza party from Papa John’s Pizza. Both Patrick and “Papa” John Schnatter, founder of Papa John’s, who flew in from Kentucky, attended the event! San Marcos Elementary School had been one of the poorest rated schools for literacy in the nation before the challenge. Now, the children of San Marcos are hovering about fourth place in the nation! In addition to the reading challenge, Peterson’s Foundation for Success has been building and maintaining libraries called “Patrick’s Corner” in Title I schools and inner city community centers to help keep at risk children reading. The Foundation’s Gearing Up Program hosts low-income and inner city Title I middle school and high school students to receive back-to-school supplies, backpacks, as well as clothing and shoes each August. During the holiday season, Patrick continues his support of disadvantaged families by hosting a “Shop with a Jock” event to provide holiday meals and gifts. The goal of the Patrick Peterson Foundation for Success is to impact the lives of more than 30,000 at-risk Arizona youth by the end of 2015.
