Proposed Anchoring Ban

The debate over the proposal to ban anchoring that the USGA and R&A made in late November, after which has followed a three-month comment period that will end Feb. 28th, has widened to include irrelevancies. The only issue is, or should be, whether the player who anchors the putter against his or her body is making a stroke of golf. The irrelevancies have been fouling the air for the last three months, and reached dizzying heights of irrelevancy this week when PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem conducted a conference call with the 16-member Player Advisory Council. The rhetoric has amped up. And amped up. And amped up.

Proposed Rules change to prohibit anchored strokes

The R&A and the USGA recently announced proposed changes to the Rules of Golf that would prohibit anchoring the club in making a stroke. The proposed Rule 14-1b would prohibit strokes made with the club or a hand gripping the club held directly against the player’s body, or with a forearm held against the body to establish an anchor point that indirectly anchors the club.

Pioneer Classic commemorates 25 years

On September 21-22, Alliance Beverage celebrates its 25th anniversary of the Pioneer Classic Golf Tournament at the Wigwam Resort and Golf Club. Since 1987, the Pioneer Classic Benefit Fund has been dedicated to raising funds for Arizona charities. The University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center, Arizona Cancer Center, Young Life and the Changing Lives Center for Women and Children will benefit from the 2012 tournament.
